Jim, et al,
I have often wondered what became of this forum. It used to be a hub
of activity but like you, I questions the reasons. I am sporadic with
AMfone.net for reasons I will not discuss here. There were others like me
who were frustrated and new forums were established, (W5HRO's comes to
mind), but evaporated as quickly as they started. I go on Facebook for
different AM 'groups' there, but I'm dissatisfied with the constant barrage
of false advertisements, joining different groups etc. I think it was Don,
K4KYV who convinced the owner of QRZ.com to allow both a 'Boat Anchor' forum
and an 'AM' forum there. However, that's even come under consternation of
the board owner when it came to discussing FCC rules regarding AM.
What has come to light over on QRZ and curiously it was posted in
the 'Ham News' forum, and not the 'AM' forum was the re-invigorating of AM
International. John, N9AMI is taking over the reins of that organization
from Dale, KW1I. Personally, I forgot about its existence and for some
reason I never joined. But having said that, it might be worthwhile to
approach John about a co-op. I think when Brian, WA5AM(SK) first started
this board, he did it in conjunction with the AMfone website.
Having an AM forum style on the internet is advantageous, but things
can become too personal or it is subjected to 'too many eyes' on the WWW
along with hacking etc. The nice thing about this email reflector is that it
tends to be private, (it is public but you have to do some digging and be
specific to find what you are looking for!).
There is my opinion and advice. I know opinions are like behinds,
everyone has one and most of them stink! I apologize for the 'Old Buzzard
Transmission', that's just how I am.

Mod-U-Lator,
Mike(y)/W3SLK

Happy New Year to all.

Over the past few years the membership of this list has dwindled
substantially. A lot due to unknown reasons or changing of some members
mail address.

In light of that I am about to begin unsubscribing those whose messages are
bouncing or have their options set to not receive mail. I have, in the
past, thought about discontinuing this list altogether because of few posts
to the list.

The advent of Facebook spelled the demise of this list and a lot of people
started their own pages. That caused participation to decrease
dramatically.

After I remove all the absent members I will take a look at the number of
remaining members and decide whether to keep this list going, it may not be
worth it. You will be given and opportunity to express your opinion when I
finish the removal.

73,

Jim
