This is true Geoff. To name the differences would be providing many descriptive details.
If anyone has worked on these sets, they know that many of the changes were not documented well as with any of these old radio. From what I know there were at least two different numbered diagrams, but I am not sure of that even. I have an SX 42, that fortunately, came with the book and service information. But the serial number plate, useless for identifying models, is missing.
Earlier sets used a 6H6 for detector and one for noise limiter. The very latest models use a 6AL5 and has AFC, but this does not identify the sets in question. Mine has 6H6 tubes but is very different than the diagram I have. If anyone has questions, there is an addendum list on BAMA. My set does not have those changes, therefore is an early set.
If anyone has a diagram that can be identified as one from a very early set, please contact me.
73,
Jim
Hope all is well with everyone.

Those that know, would be ones Jim would like to filter to. Those that don't, while might be interested, really have nothing to contribute to the conversation.
I wish I knew what the difference between early and late versions is, but I'm fairly knowledgeable about the differences in R-274's.
