Thanks for all who sent suggestions for my 260 problem. Heinz, DH2FA is a recipient of the Simpson 260 suggestion gold star, suggesting I read the meter coil resistance. I did, and found it, just as he surmised, at 7500 ohms instead of 5000, thus the 30% error. Simpson, via Milt Novak came back with some pertinent info about the meter movement, in addition to the part number and a list of places where I could purchase it, he said it is basically the same movement in all the 260 series up to Series 8. So, for $87, I will have a new meter movement on its way, and my 45 year old meter will be back in action. That is a bit better than $400 for a new one. I also found 2 great .pdf's on cal and repair of the the 260 series, one is military, and the other is from Sears and Roebuck and is quite comprehensive, if anybody wants a copy emailed. What can I say, I'm into fix and repair and keep it going, my truck is 33 with 400K miles, and most of my ham gear is my age or older, and I'm 65.
