Yes, I think we would all be better off. I agree with what others have suggested that operators who join a QSO or roundtable need to listen first and pay attention to the order of things so as not to foul things up for the other operators. And ignoring a lid may be justified. But a few kind words might help educate newcomers and make them better AM operators or at least get them headed in the right direction rather than discourage them from participation in AM.
>As for cross mode SSB-AM to Full Carrier-AM,? I never turn down a response to a CQ, as long as I can actually understand the other station.? Typically if I get an SSB return, I simply tell them I'm running AM, ask for about a minute
> transmission, then flip on the BFO.? The only time it gets troublesome is if another AM station joins in (which seems rare if there's an SSB station in QSO) then I get to work a an extra switch to cut out the BFO when they're talking.
I well recall one day when I was a new Novice I called an AM operator on 40 meters. He was near the top of the Novice band and he was kind enough to answer my call and carry on a half hour QSO running AM, me CW. I always appreciated his patience. It was a big deal to me as a teenager that a fone operator took the time to do that, and I have always remembered that QSO.
