[AMRadio] Have you ever tried SDR?

I'm kind of split on the subject. I bought a Flex SDR1000 to use for the VFO and receiver for a 813 based rig I have been building out of the '55 Handbook (which is why I call it Frankenmitter) but geting in and having parts you can actually work on is a blessing, that's why I love old tech.

It's also therapy, I'm an engineer for 6 radio stations here in Dallas and the whole place is one big network. The biggest consoles connect with one cable about the size of RG6 that has CAN Buss and 48 V.D.C. in it and every mic has its own IP address. That's why I'm kind of hot to trot on get the ATC I bought week before last going.

But I can diddle the knobs and know what they do, I can watch multiple meters and know what they are telling me. If it smokes, I can get it on the work bench, grab the soldering iron and make it work again. That is part of the fun of amateur radio, understanding how it works and the knowledge to fix it if it breaks, and I don't have to know what my frequency is read out to six digits, and if a station is slightly off, I know how to tune him in.
