The only thing that I can say?
AMEN Brother!
I don't have to pray that some little tiny box and a piece of software
coughs up a hairball!
Software is ALWAYS out on the *bleeding* edge, meaning that it has all
the "latest" that REALLY hasn't had adequate testing, integration, and
vetting through adequate use.
I worked in a software lab doing just those things. I spent over 16
years doing that nonsense!
I have NEVER had an issue of zero beating a split transmitter and
receiver with the station I'm working, AND the two pieces of gear.
If the other person is a tad off in my receiver, yet he's got my
transmitter freq dialed in, I can very easily adjust to the conditions
to the point that the other Op doesn't even know.
We communicate and go with it.
I thoroughly enjoy working on my own gear and maintaining it. I really
love to align either the transmitter or the receiver to improve the
capability.
Going through a DX-60, an SP-600, an HT-32, and the odd SX-101 series
makes me happy!

If it smokes, I can get it on the work bench, grab the soldering iron and make it work again. That is part of the fun of amateur radio, understanding how it works and the knowledge to fix it if it breaks, and I don't have to know what my frequency is read out to six digits, and if a station is slightly off, I know how to tune him in.
