[AMRadio] AM Presentation

GA gentlemen.
I've been following this thread and find it somewhat surprising that there is not more AM on the W. Coast. But I guess it is what it is.
I'm in Florida on the East Coast. In our county, there are over 200 licensed hams but most are inactive or 90-day wonders that cannot think beyond a 2m repeater and an HT. Point is, we have three (3) active AM'ers including me.
In Florida, there is a very active group based primarily out of the Tampa Bay area on the Gulf Coast. They meet formally each Sunday morning starting about 7am EDT on 3675kc. They also monitor 3805kc and will acknowledge any check-ins by General Class on that frequency. Nice bunch of guys, BTW.
We also have a regular Tuesday evening Southeast AMI net at 7:30pm EDT on 3885kc. Listen for NC W4AMI. The first part of the net is a traders net and the rest is general check-ins. There are usually a number of folks who hang around post-net to chat round-table.
Then there is the Thursday evening net called the Gulf Coast Mullet Society. They convene at 7pm EDT on 3885kc and there are usually early arrivals. Listen for W4GCM as NC.
Between the two nets above on 3885kc, we have listed over 50 calls, most of whom are regulars. Equipment from broadcast transmitters to DX-60's and everything in-between. Nice folks.
Yes, these are early evening start times so West of Alabama means propagation issues and such. But try to get in there if possible.
About 40m here in the South. It's amazing that so few are using that band. We have the usual SSB and CW, but AM is all but forgotten. A few months back I was working on the DX-60 and called CQ on 7290kc in the middle of the day. Imagine my surprise when the return was in North Georgia and we had an AM pipeline for a good 30-minute rag chew. I'm trying to get settled in with a new antenna and plan to call CQ on 40m a lot when I get it up and working.
I'm also looking into a 75m NVIS lashup to better serve the "local" footprint and maybe entice more participation on 3885kc. And 3880, and 3890!
Well, that's enuf here. Listen in if you can to these frequencies and join in when you can. Thanks for the BW.

As I've said. AM activity is regional. Your in Colorado. I'm in Puget Sound.
Daytime 40M operation between Colorado and Puget Sound just does not seem to
happen.
I have been picking up a SWBC station on 7290 in the evening. But it's been
a while since I have tried. A couple of months.
New people don't seem to get into ham radio for the same reason most of us
did back 40 or 50 years ago.
And we are losing many that did start 40 or 50 years ago.
