I don't think they had radios in them, Brian. Something as simple as a
BC-611 would probably suffice if he's looking for some level of accuracy.
2-way gear as we came to know it later (VHF, Low band etc) hadn't quite hit
its stride.

OTOH, if he just wants to put a cool setup in it, a TCS would fit the bill.
Plenty around and prices are reasonable (if you avoid the 'priceless'
crowd). Not exactly small, and multiple pieces required, but definitely not
as big as a BC-610 and the generator you needed to drag behind.
