[AMRadio] Bugged by CW?

Hi Rob: I was using it in the AM position with audio of course turned off
and yes it wandered all over. Then I wondered why I was doing that and
placed it in CW and surprise it became stable. It seems to sit at about 60
watts out for hours. I have no idea why!!! If you can not use that much
power, someplace in the hundreds of menues the max powr out can be set much
lower. I would hope that that also means that the power control still
operated over its full mechanical range and thus MIGHT be stable at the
lower level. I have never noticed any big output jump when turning it on.
Now, I am driving the 833As into class C plate modulated, they are not used
in linear mode, so a little change in output has no effect on operation,
plus I hit the big guys pretty hard, about 150 ma of grid current. I have
heard some stories about the ALC when driving a linear for AM, not sure what
that is about. if that is what you are doing, perhaps you can kill the ALC.
I also fooled with the link coupling to get about a 1.5 to 1 SWR.

Hi Bernie,

What power output do you have the 1000MP set at, for use as a driver?

Do you find it unstable, i.e. does the power output vary over time?
Do you notice a big increase upon keying the box into transmit then it
drops off? I notice this with mine but I have been told (not by
Yaesu) it is a design flaw and they all do it. My fix will be to quit
using it. Not being able to fix any of the modern stuff is part of
what's driving me to vintage gear.
