I'm sorry to hear that you are not on the air due to "TVI."  Have you tried QRP?  It's possible that a few watts won't overwhealm the cable box and the Sony TV.  You would be surprised what you can do with a QRP rig and a decent antenna.  I could find a Heathkit HW-8 and power supply (80 through 15 meters, CW) or an original Ten Tec Argonaut (80 through 10, SSB and CW) to loan you if you would like to try something out.
