Folks often forget about the time involved, or discount it based on the
price that they feel it should be worth. If we paid ourselves a fair wage
for restoring these old trinkets and based it on being a wise financial
investment, I suspect few items would get restored. Especially when you add
in the cost of parts and materials, along with the original purchase price.
Some folks see an asking price and automatically assume that all examples
are worth that, or this is what they go for. I've noticed a lot of items
available on ebay and elsewhere for far more than they are worth to me.
More often than not, they remain on the market for months, sometimes with
price adjustments and other times not. What it actually ends up selling
for, if it sells at all, is seldom seen. Only the original asking price is
remembered.
I know folks who truly believe a Globe King of any model isn't worth $100,
muchless $3000. I bet everyone in this thread would disagree with the $100
value, even for a ratty unit needing restoration. This is the good thing
about the free market: if it's not worth it, it won't sell. If it does,
then it was worth that amount to at least one person besides the seller.
