Charlie,
That's precisely as crappy as they ever sounded as new.
You indeed could hear them on the move in the old M-151A1 Jeep, but they
were never intended to be high fidelity.
The AN/GRC-46 didn't sound worth a tinker's darn, and the microphones
were about worth the blasting cap to blow them apart.
Think in terms of the old PRC-25 or PRC-77. Sounds just alike.
All we were supposed to do was communicate. Getting the coordinates
correct for a fire mission was necessary, sound great didn't matter.

Feeding it with the proper input Z, they are very 'tinny', no bass response at all. They are supposedly a 300 - 7 Khz speaker, but was wondering if that hard cone kills all the base. So, anybody that has one, do they sound as freq. restricted to you as me? Or do I have to bad speakers? Nice to use on CW, they are almost an audio filter, but on AM, audio quality is not good, but I think the way it sounds would be a plus in a very loud environment.
