Yep, there was a mod in ER about 15 years ago. Minimal impact on the rig.
The VFO already uses the 1800-2000Kcs to double for 80M. A relay is used to
switch in a cap across the grid stage and places an extra coil in series
with the final tank. There was a fellow down in NJ, (whose call sign escapes
me now), installed the mods and I had the privilege to talk to him on 160
about it. It does a fine job once its completed.
