Yeah, I could live without eBay and an end to greedy auctions and
pitting hams against each other. I guess you don't remember
classifieds in the backs of ham magazines, and by the way I still do
FB buying out of ER classifieds and I'm smart enough to go inside out
of the rain.

The "verified" thing is eBay exploiting its near monopoly as an
on-line marketplace--what they want is paypal access to your cash
account so they don't have to pay charge card fees--failing that, they
want you to be verified by getting their PayPal Mastercard to get past
the spending limit. I did the latter because I don't like anyone
getting to tap my checking account, however some folks set up separate
accounts just for paypal and throw a few hundred bucks in it and more
when needed. I find that to be too much trouble. Also you are paying
cash without the recourse afforded by credit in the event of a deal
gone bad.

I just accepted the PayPal Mastercard and have been using it and
paying it off--so far no probs, but it's another greedy trick by a
business that basically has an on-line selling place monopoly. At
least I do not sell on eBay as I do not sell to hams for profit.
Unfortunately there are some things now that if you want them you have
to do business on eBay. I don't like it but I have accepted it.
