I am going to make every effort to get on 29 mc and call CQ ( note, not just
one cq and then off) at least once a day for a full week starting today,
this in stark contrast to how much I dislike the concept of being that far
away from the main area of operation. I will report on the results, but I
think I already know them. regarding lower band operation, when I
operate the lower end of 80, 3.7 A.M. half of the responses to my CQs are
SSB stations, about half do not even know I am on A.M. the other half get
interested and about 50% of that half put the ricebox on A.M.!!!

Other comments about some posts, if its not " fair" to operate a mode that
others can not, then we all need to operate CW only, or perhaps not at all
as this is not "fair" to those without any lisence. Piss of SSB ops? why
is that even a worry? the ones that get pissed seem to be the most ignorant
ops on the bands. 6 KC wide? here that is again, there is no bandwidth
restriction other that that necessary to acomplish the desired
communication. That means to me, it should sound like I sound and not a
quacking duck, or talking to someone on the landline. that is why I operate
A.M. not because it is able to establish some level of communication, rather
it is becuse the other person sounds like he/she is in the room with me.
I do operate SSB and am amazed when people ask how they sound! well you
sound horrible, but consistent with SSB capabalities.

PS. I will check beacons first to be sure the band is open. And, also
upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, the Extra is so simple as to be hardly any test
at all! All the answers are in the License Manual, and tests are
adminestered by VEs how much simpler can it get? Perhaps get it out of a
Wheaties box as a prize?
