What is this about getting you general before 1987? Do you mean that if you have a license before 1987 that you only have to take the satellite and control section of the Extra. Not bad. Where did I find this information?

At least I can work on my rigs, can still do CW, and have the ability to
get the Extra, if I so desire.
In fact, I FINALLY got my letter from the FCC demonstrating that I got
my general prior to 1987.
So I can go study or memorize the dumb satellite and control station
garbage.
I won't be running sat comms with the BC-610 anytime soon!
