Very true. That internal-noggin resonance isn't part of the overall
picture beyond helping you modulate your words.
Another problem beyond aging ears: are people listening with a
receiver providing true fidelity? Or are they using a six or three kHz
mechanical filter lopping off the highs and lows? Over-the-air audio
reports from others are about as reliable as weather reports, as Jay
eluded to in his post. There's no accounting for how others hear your
voice or signal, so 'sounds good to me' means just that, it doesn't
mean your mic sounds great.
