Brett,
Don't think I am ready to build my own receiver yet, but I have though about it.
I will probably mainly be on 10 and 40 meters AM and some CW.

Anything you can find at a good price.
nc300/303, sx101, any Drake receiver, the RME's, etc.
They all are poor, too wide, too narrow, who knows what frequency you are
on, mostly crappy audio.
The R390's are about the best.
I ended up building my own.
