That's true, Rick. I've had a number of good conversations up there in
the late evening or afternoon hours. It just seems to light up around
prime time, maybe 7-11PM. I suspect other areas of the country beyond
the east coast don't have the same issue.

"Real" is whatcha make it. Get on the air with whatever you have, so
long as your signal is clean, and enjoy. Add/change equipment as you
go. A couple nights ago on 3.705 I was using my 1953 tube transmitter
to talk with Pete 'CWA on his Flex radio and Steve K4HX on his FT-1000
& amp. Everything worked just fine. (o: Occasionally we are joined by
Jean F6AQK in southern France running a 200w homebrew rig and
sometimes other Europeans.
Remember, no one can see what you're running but you. If it sounds
okay and you're happy with it (and heard well), that's all that
matters.
