I went through a LOT of gear back when it was cheap at fests, $10.00 dx100,
$50.00 for a 32V3, got stuff from friends, sold it to other friends, bought
rigs just for parts...
I got rid of all of it except one 32v3, as I consider almost all ham gear as
junk, or at least made to a price point and having audio more for working DX
then being nice to listen to.
There is no longer anything old I would want, been through most of the stuff
and found it wanting.
Some of the old stuff was really neat, but I would not want to own and use
it on a regular basis.
The homebrew works better and has been much more reliable, plus, its almost
worthless and not a collectors item.
The odd modern rig I sell on qth or other ham only type places, and if I get
what I paid for it, its very rare.
I look at it as a rental fee, buy a radio, play with it, sell it after a
year.
Last year I was buying old rigs like the Ten Tec Corsair, older ten tec
stuff, a Drake tr7, just to try as I wanted them when I could not afford to
get them, and now they are cheap.
I also found them wanting.
I would rather buy an sdr-iq and have cash left over then pay $750.00 for an
sx101.
Its a receiver, a panadaptor, a pieceof test equipment, fits in your pocket,
works much better then an sx101 or any old receiver.
Even the qs1r is cheaper, and is way beyond any ham receiver, old or new.
Home brew, and/or very good stuff, no time or room for the old stuff...
