Yep, I agree on the SX-101 price, Russ. Neither of us could imagine
spending even a fraction of that, since we know we can find them for
$50-$150 with minimal effort. Provided it's a complete unit with a
clean panel, we can easily repaint the cabinet, re-cap as needed,
align, and enjoy. But there are still a lot of newbies out there who
can't do that, or are in a hurry to buy a collection. To them, it must
seem like a fair price, so they don't see it as getting ripped off.

I've confined most of my selling in recent years to private deals with
friends, or hamfests. It's just easier for me than dealing with online
selling and the associated shipping. Once upon a time, many of us had
to wheel & deal to sustain our interest. As we grew a bit older and
(hopefully) wiser, getting top dollar became less of an issue as
disposable income grew, our tastes changed, and/or we'd gotten much of
what we wanted. Nowadays helping out a friend or simply sending it to
a new home via the hamfest, without packing and shipping, far
outweighs the few dollars more ebay might bring.

Like you, I prefer to look around for goodies I still need or just
plain want. You learn a lot more from the journey than you ever can
from just throwing money at something online. There are still a few
toys out there I'd like to try, but aside from small items or
something difficult to locate, ebay gets little attention from me
these days beyond the odd book, part, or accessory. It's still a great
tool to have at your disposal, though. I've seen items there that I'd
never seen before or since. Also managed to snag a Clegg Allbander for
my Zeus and Interceptor back in the 90s that would've taken another
decade to locate locally.
