Thanks, Darrell... I really wish that were the case. Back when I was trying
everything I could possibly try I made that mod to the plate relay, but
unfortunately it was not the culprit.

I don't have a BC-610, but it seems like I read somewhere, that the 
problem isn't actually the transformer. I */think/* they said it was the 
plate relay, and the solution was to put a capacitor across the coil. 
Someone else can probably tell you more about it than I can.
