Nothing wrong with displaying pride. You miss my point. It's all the
bellyaching about how things should be
like they were back then... it's the putting down of those of us that came
into the hobby after the requirements
changed. Hey... I wasn't around in 1950!
I actually worked a ham that said he would refuse to work anyone who didn't
pass the CW test. I told him the CW test
was not required when I obtained my extra. This was on AM and we did
continue the QSO but it sure was awkard!
Brian, I actually admire the oldtimers that had to go through the more
difficult processes to become licensed. I'm not
jealous. I'm refering to the harping on it that goes on with some and the
belitting the new hams that did not have to.
Then there's the hams that have Advanced tickets that refuse to upgrade to
Extra just to "prove" they have actually
passed the 13 wpm code requirement. Really? All you have to do is tell me
on the air and I'll believe you. *smile*
It's just my opinion, as I stated before, but I think it's pretty silly not
to upgrade to Extra "just because" or "in spite" of
the way things used to be.
I did not intend to ruffle feathers but that happens so easily in the ham
community!

ENJOY THE HOBBY with full priveledges. Get over it? What is wrong with the
_pride_ of having passed the old advanced or extra?? Just what? What is
wrong with the fact some know CW, and are good at it. I don't think I've
seen anyone on here mention anything about being better or worse than anyone
else because of the testing. It's not about the individual ham, new or old,
the discussion is about how we have been forced to accept certain changes
over the years. I have, in reality, heard more new hams complain like you
about the so called "old timer" hams than I have the other way around. Is it
a confidence thing? Jealousy? Just what is it? Like you said, enjoy the
hobby and leave t
he "new ham - old ham" thing alone. My pride is mine, I earned what I
worked for and no one is going to take that away from me, nor tell me NOT to
display my pride or work when I so choose! -- Brian Sherrod - A.R.S. W5AMI
