Me too John except I didn't bother to rejoin after that insult.
Nowadays I buy one QST off the newsstand every 5 years or so....maybe...and
if I am interested in the latest contest reports...NOT!

The ARRL lost out on at least one life membership with that deal.  I  was 
days away from sending in my application when the grid started leaking. I  
dropped my membership for some 10 years after that. My main reason for
joining 
 again was to receive QST.
