Driven by the progress and the current society and its culture of
'make it cheaper'. What kind of technical work as we knew it still
exists out there today, and how much of it? Many 'techs' of yesteryear
are relegated to pulling cables, hooking up computers, or installing
dish systems. And likely some engineers, too. We live in a society of
software driven SMT, plug-n-play-then-throwaway. Consumer electronics
have become disposable in most respects. And God pity the ham who is
foolish enough to meticulously restore an old radio and then place it
for sale for a fraction of the time he has invested in it. He'll be
branded as a crook, crazy, whatever else by someone who bought a
similar radio for $25 back in 1972.

Which is part of the reason the FCC chose to remove the requirement,
as noted in their comments. Anyone who remembers listening to
WA4Doggie, "Fuzzy Zulu" and others from decades ago who passed the 13
or 20wpm test understand this all too well.

The next project here is a 10m dipole in order to join in the fun of
excellent band conditions. Too many equipment repairs to list!
