I'd like to run continuous carrier AM power such that each one of my
sidebands peaks out at 1.5 KW.
Wow Gary, you got your work cut out for you man. Ameritron
makes an entire line of RF power amplifiers, and sells more amps to
hams every year than all the other amp manufacturers combined. They
make at least three amps, the AL1500, AL1200 and one less well known
with a pair of 3cx800s, and all can be easily driven to more than 1.5
KW. If you study the amp's spec's you'll figure out that the one with
the 8877 can be driven to 2500 watts output with an average plastic
radio 100 w. exciter. These amps have been in production for at least
20 years. Thousands upon thousands have been made and sold in that
time. Now, anyone who thinks all of these amps are being driven to no
more than 1500 w. output on slopbucket and CW is kidding himself.
Lotta hams out there who need to be set straight.
Jim, I think there was a misunderstading about the DX50; it does 50 KW
dead carrier; maybe that was what was meant by "100%" output, i.e.
maxumum carrier power (actually it has some reserve).
