[AMRadio] AM power

And the chimpanzee reference has a strong tie to hams. Besides the guys you see
at hamfests with antennas mounted on a hard hat, wearing a tee shirt that says
Foreign Exchange Student Roswell High class of '47, whose knuckles are dragging
on the ground............the first American astronaut was a chimp named Ham.

Hey Bill, Jim:

I was being a bit silly. Was in jest referring to a mechanical device to
work the key so as to make it sound vocal. Just trying to get past the turf
wars. Bill, that brings back old memories. My thesis project was a twelve
channel digital proportional guidance system circa 1964. That was an
exciting decade. Simply trying to get the reflector out of the loop.

Kindest regards Jim K9AXN

Sounds like digital am similar to what the Harris DX series transmitters do.
There is no modulator amplifier just a analog to digital converter turning
off and on the rf stages in step with the audio. I know these are very
efficient, cool running and have wonderful fidelity to the audio compared to
a plate modulated transmitter.
These run 100% carrier power during quiet audio times to better quiet the
receiver listening to the station. Jim Hawkins has a page explaining how
this works.
This should be possible by using IC's on a smaller scale than a multi KW
broadcast transmitter. Maybe cleaner audio with less splatter too.
