Thanks Jim and all others. I was almost sure it wasn't the thing to do, but
was hoping I was wrong. I'm trouble shooting a transmitter with a pair of
866's and it's come time to apply B+ and take some readings. I have a pair
of diode substitutes but I really don't like using them as it throws the
voltages all off. I really appreciate all the replies and warnings.

I don't suggest you do that Rick. If you really want to use 866s then
sub 3B28s for the measurements then put the 866s back when you have them
vertical.
