that again in perhaps The Radio Engineers Handbook? I always wondered if
the Doherty system has a similar result as I have been told that the phasing
of the tuning is critical in the Doherty system and difficult to QSY much.

Do a search on "Outphasing Modulation" and you will find more information on this technique. Looks good for a single frequency transmitter but not for something that you would want to tune over a broad band.
