[AMRadio] GZ34 Tube

Ron,

You might want to consider doing what I regularly do.....that is.....make a
solid state replacement by merely breaking the glass envelope of a tube with the
right base and then removing the guts of the tube from the socket pins. Wire in
silicon diodes that will meet your needs. 1N5408's are 1KV 3A units that are
cheap. I would suggest 2-3 of these diodes in each leg of the rectifier. I pot
the components in epoxy or epoxy a pill bottle over the diode assembly if it's
too large to cram down inside the old tube base. Going solid state will lighten
the load on the power transformer (no rectifier filament to power)
considerably. Your B+ will be a little higher but that <usually> is not a
problem. If it is, you can insert an appropriate resistor in series between the
rectifier output and the input to the filter, be it choke or capacitor input.

I need a GZ34, or 5AR4 tube for my Eico 720 transmitter.

Does anyone have one they can part with? Thanks,

Ron , WA9QNN
