[AMRadio] Must have survived the EMP

Wonder if it would have survived the Solar Flare EMP of 1859? It was so strong
that arcs at telegraph offices shocked telegraphers and set paper on fire. It
was said that the lines had so much induced voltage that messages could be sent
even with the station batteries disconnected. The Aurora was visible as far
south as the Caribbean.

It came from a ham who sold it on eBay to the company that handled the
props. I know this because he posted a note about it on one of the
radio reflectors I subscribe to, and that was how I found out about
"Falling Skies" (which I'm totally addicted to!). I've been waiting for
it to turn up in the plot as naturally the seller had no idea what they
were going to use it for.
It was a Globe Scout 40A. I can only speculate why it caught their
fancy, but it would have been nice if they'd got the VFO, since that
would have varied the frequency more effectively than turning the plate
tuning knob did ;-) It was kinda hokey how they turned it into a
"glowbug" but I was impressed that it could load up a grounded flagpole ;-)
Maybe next year they'll pop for a better receiver, because the one they
used in the first series had to be cranked.
