Todd, that's a downer. I was planning on trying to join you all tonight.
I have to work in the morning so no 2 AM operating here for me, but I took
today off because the wx was so wonderful and tried to do a little winter
prep work on the "antenna farm." Maybe in my case it is more like an
antenna garden. I stupidly reused old wire for the 160 m. inverted L last
year because I was in a hurry naturally, and did not even think to do it
right with all new wire. So I thought I'd take it down today and restring
it with new no. 12 stranded. The old wire had some splices in it too,
because I kept adding on to it. I put all my wire antennas up with marine
pulleys so I could drop them whenever I need to so I figured this would be a
quick job. Well I find out the darn pulley up at the top of the mast
holding the vertical 50 foot part is jammed. I think I know what happened,
but to get to it means taking a lot of stuff down and tilting over the
mast--a real pain in the drain so I decided to use the existing wire until
it breaks and I _have_ to fix it (which will probably be in January, you
know how that goes). The old wire works okay--I should have left it alone.
Do you use 872s in the KW1 or have you put in the s.s. replacements?
John, do you drink fake coffee (decaf) late at night? My post-5 pm coffee
days are over.
