It's an old KW-1, Kelly. Circa 1953. After getting the top loading cap
out of it to clean up and arc tracks, I pulled out the two front HV
feed-thru insulators. First one was clean as a whistle, but the second
one associated with the plate choke had a hole burned through the
ceramic and was arcing where it passed through the chassis, out of
sight, covered by the insulator and its gaskets. This is a known fault
in these transmitters but I'd never checked all 3 of the insulators
before. They are an odd size, but fortunately I have a spare that I
came across in my parts a week or so back. Good timing!
So if all goes well, the old girl will be back on the air tomorrow.
I've had this flaky intermittent gremlin for years with this
transmitter, hopefully it's solved.
