Vince,
It had a vr tube in the screen.
1969 arrl handbook (yellow one) one tube transmitter....
It worked well, I even had qso,s with it!
This was a VERY early project, with making my own cabinet
using circuit board material and L brackets, winding
coils on pill bottles, using buttons out of a cash register
for transmit and receive.
The green one (ch bgr) was receive and lit up when pressed,
the red one (lg coke) was tx.
I am not making this up!
I built an RF triggered side tone oscillator with a speaker
in the top of the 'cabinet', tr switching, made a shunt
up for the meter I had to read plate current, and painted
the thing black wrinkle finish....
The power supply was separate, using a tv transformer.
All using parts I got out of tv,s and so on....
Surprisingly, it did not sound horrible on cw....
The problem with the circuit under modulation is keeping the
grid current stable...too much and the crystal breaks, too
little and it stops oscillating....
