Brian,
I have the same mtr. It's great for the 5kv range.
My notes show the replacement for the BA-1312 is a PX-21, 4.5 v
I don't know if thats still available as these are old notes and 
might be a merc batt. The center is a standard 1.5 volt cell.
I do have a copy of the schematic and functional if you need it.
