Go on ebay (or other source if you know one) and buy all the late fifties 
ARRL hand books you can find. (Don't bid too high, they're out there for 5-10 
dollars. Also get some late fifties "editors and Engineers" Radio handbooks. 
You'll love what you find in these.
Stay on the AM reflector  - post your needs and questions.
