Hi AM'ers!
I know that AM'ers just "love" Heil microphones, so I thought this item
would generate some interest and comment.

Subject: New Heil Classic Microphone!
This posting is a bit off topic, but I know that many members here enjoy
operating classic rigs. I also run a "lo-fi" audiodiscussion group on
Yahoogroups, and had the pleasure of discussing audio with Bob Heil the
other day. He's got a newproduct coming out that classic fans will love!
Here's a copy of our latest posting and a link to the photos.

Had a nice telephone conversation with Bob Heil today; we started out
discussing this e-mail list and ended up talking audio for the better part
of an hour.
Bob agreed to allow list members to get a sneak peek at some new products
coming out within the next two months. You can see photos on the web site
at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ssbaudio/files/
The first product is the new Heil "Classic" microphone which takes it's
shape from the vintage RCA 74B microphone. The Classic will feature the
Goldline HC-5 full range element, but will be housed in the vintage shell,
complete with the amateur's callsign.
According to Bob, "This is not a cheap knock off...it features stainless
steel grill, custom tooled parts, etc. It's perfect for those who collect
the classic rigs of the past".
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The second item of interest to some audiophiles is a new custom microphone
cable that Heil is having produced. "We are committed to important products
that the community needs, said Heil, "even down to our own wire. No one is
even building the right wire for the amateur radio market. The audio and
PTT leads are all inside the same shield...cheap, tiny #22 wire...I just
tooled up for
an amazing new microphone wire - dual balanced #18 gauge inside a 100%
silver braided shield that solders so easy. Two # 18 gauge PTT lines are on
the outside of that shield. Keeps all of the coupling between the audio and
DC lines to a nil. Nice, big flexible jacket. That will be available in a
month or so in bulk or our custom cables."
No other details are available on the new cabling, but it will represent a
significant contribution to audiophiles. One of the few complaints against
Heil products as long been the cabling's vulnerability to RFI. Most of us
run dual shielded cables now, one for audio and another for PTT to combat
this problem. The new cable will find it's way into audiophile shacks
everywhere.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The other upcoming product launch is the new Heil Pro-Set, scheduled to be
available in about two months. A photo of this headset is also available at
the link above.
We didn't discuss the headset much with Bob, as it has limited appeal within
the audiophile community, but we do know that the headset will feature dual
elements, speaker phase reversal, tuned speaker cavities and the new
shielded cables.
Early reports are that it may be the best sounding headset ever. Many of us
are also active DX'ers, contesters, or like myself involved in MARS, ARES,
and other emergency communication activities where headsets are a real plus.
I'm sure I'll be adding one to my wish list!
We'd like to thank Bob for sharing these advance photos and details with the
SSB Audio Group.
