Seems like every time I operate (mostly 40m) I get
someone new trying out AM on their rice box.

Lets hope they get a nice warm welcome, and convert.
Don't dog them about their audio too much, let them think
they sound good (sometimes they do).

For the life of me, I just don't understand why someone would WANT
to use ssb all the time.

Say Joe, lets have fun communicating by holding our noses and yelling
into a cheap telephone...

If you have a fancy new kenwood, and a giant amp, and a fancy
mike, why would you want to use ssb and listen to
the Donald duck all the time?

Maybe its a holdover from the time when the NEW radios were
the thing to have, and they did NOT have any AM.

Well, if the latest solid state stuff is hot, but does not
have AM, so what, you just use SSB.

Sell/dump that old boat anchor gear and go SSB...its the hot new thing!

Well, maybe now, good sounding AM can be the HOT new thing.
....................................................

What, you don't have hi fi AM in that old ft34000?
You got to dump that thing Joe and get the new ft35000!
It does 10Hz to 20 Khz at .001 % distortion, and has the balanced
XLR mike input.
Its also got that new satellite linked diversity reception
system, along with the multi phase synchronous detector setup.
The audio sounds better than CD quality, and there is no
fading or static.

.....................................................

For the operator who likes to brag about their equipment, AM
opens up more possibilities...we all know you need a monster
amp to get moderate power out.

.........................................................
Say Joe, how's my signal tonight?
You are up one s unit Bob! What did you do?

I got me one of those new alpha amps with six 3-500z,s in it now Joe.
You know, the one that runs 2kw carrier and the blower does not
even come on.

But I thought they took 440 volts Bob.

Yes, the electric company built a new sub station next to my
house and I have a direct hookup now.
..................................................

I also know some guys run an old broadcast transmitter in the garage.
Wouldn't the ssb guys love a rig the size of an entire garage?

I just don't understand why the SSB guys are not going nuts...
