<< they did not double box it. They
simply put a few peanuts in the box.
Then, I read the contract. They are responsible for nothing. Had UPS
damaged the rig, it would have been my tough luck.
My advice, never leave the premises until the box is sealed.>>
Charlie and all:
My advise is not to use that outfit at all. I have heard nothing but horror
stories about them, and it is not just with radio gear.
For about $5.00, you can get a bundle of foam board from Home Depot, and I am
sure, places like Lowes, Ace Hardware or any large building materials firm.
It is easily cut with a box cutter and you can really do a professional
packing job if you take the time to measure and cut to size. You can cut the
inner boards to protect the knobs and meters and put more boards over the
cutouts so all is flush.
I am always keeping my eye out for computer monitor boxes and computer case
boxes that are being tossed by stores and businesses. They are usually happy
to have you haul them away and I have found valuable software that got tossed
by mistake several times. In any event, these boxes are usually double
weight and can be cut to size if needbe. If you double box one of these, you
have the makings of a small safe.
Good luck and happy packing.
