[AMRadio] Curious about an old globe found in antique store with ham calls

I ran across an old globe (the geography instrument, not the transmitter) in a Texas antique 
store.  It was made in 1930s - 1940s based on some of the countries it depicted.  Most 
interesting were callsigns of shortwave stations and indeed many ham calls with little towers 
printed in red.  The calls were printed by the globe maker in original production.  The legend 
called these "shortwave stations."  I surmise that in those days, the ham calls depicted were 
of powerhouse AM hams who were regular enough to be fixtures on bands that were easily 
tuned by the family radio.  Does anyone have any recollection of these globes?  I am sure 
the calls could be found in an old callbook, but not in modern databases unless they are 
somehow still active.  I would appreciate any info.  I may buy the globe.
