John,
That is a good idea.

I went a slightly different route.

I have two friends close, both hams and into the big 'junk'.

We all have an agreement that in the event of something happening,
one of the other guys (or both) would have first pick, and help
in disposing of the unwanted stuff for a reasonable price.
No dumpsters.

Both the other guys have some nice goodies, vintage stuff and
many parts like big mod iron.
I have a few nice vintage things and a lot of nice home brew
stuff, and some parts and tubes and so on.
Its junk to my wife, but I tell her its worth something
to some people.
She was surprised when I sold my Collins 30K-1, I got enough
to pay the taxes, had some left over and also got a KWM2A
in part trade!
To her it was an ugly thing in the basement.

Very nice transmitter, but I did not use it enough, and like the
home brew stuff better.

I tend to get rid of anything I don't use for more than
6 months.
I have gotten rid of ...

globe king 500c
kws-1
75a4
75s1
30k-1
Drake r4b
hw101
51s-1
globe scout
nc300
nc303
multi elmac af67
r388
32v1
Viking valiant
Viking 2
all the modern kenwood and icom stuff (yuk!)
And lots of other stuff!

I kept the...

r390a
Scott slrm
halicrafters sx17
gonset g76
kwm2a
dx100 (cause its broke)
both 32v3,s
all the home brew stuff.

Almost always sold it for less than I paid for it, or
traded it for something.

I really love the stuff I have left, except maybe the kwm2a.
ssb...yuk! but it looks like a radio and its tubes...
