<<Unless you have a museum, how can you use all that?
How can you even get at all that?>>

Hi Brett,

Thanks for the comments. I have heard of things like that happening many
times over, and have seen my sister, both when she moved, and when she closed
up my Mother's house have a dumpster left in the yard into which went nearly
everything.

In answer to your comment, I do have a small "museum" specializing mainly in
Hallicrafters equipment. Much of this gear is working and I intend to
eventually have it all operable. I plan to rotate the REAL HAM gear through
as boatanchor stations and if I have room, try to duplicate some of the
"sets" from the Hallicrafters equipment flyers.

One thing I am doing to try forestall the dumpster syndrome in the event of
my demise is to come up with a full inventory including make, model, serial
number, date and cost at acquisition, approximate worth today and source of
acquisition. This is not only a great thing to have for family use in
disposition of the equipment, but invaluable for insurance purposes. A copy
should be filed in a safe place and one given to your insurance agent. Also,
keep it up to date, easy to do if you mark it up the minute it comes in the
door. If you do this in a spread sheet computer program, it makes it very
easy to add and delete items as well as getting updated printouts. I have
also made a separate inventory for tools, test equipment and parts.

This may seem like a lot of work, but in a case I observed recently, it
should make it easier for all concerned. A gentleman who really had a huge
and well maintained collection passed away suddenly. His widow was advised by
friends on pricing his equipment for sale. In all too many instances, these
prices were equal to or higher than seen on the unmentionable auction site.
To make matters worse, she added a bit more on top of that. The result was
that it took a very long time to dispose of the estate and there were a few
items left up to the day she sold the house and moved.

This is my two cents, but I personally think that making a list is a good
idea. As for me, well the friends who helped me move in here are all
patients at the chiropractors now so I expect I will have to recruit the
local high school football team next time.
