Hi again. Yes it's Ron here again asking for comments on the Apache/Mohawk pair. My Mohawk actually works quite well in the AM mode. A couple of minor points of concern are as follows. The volume is quite loud even with the AF gain turned fully counterclockwise... I assume that a new pot is in order, because I cannot turn the volume right down to a level where nothing is heard.
Also, regarding the IF gain control, what is the real purpose or practical use of IF control as opposed to RF gain control? I understand their place in the overall circuit, but in the real world of listening on the Mohawk, I can't see any difference between turning down the RF gain, or turning down the IF gain. So, what is the practical reason for the IF gain control?
I really like the Apache/Mohawk pair and think they are a great classic set of twins. I can only imagine the pleasure and satisfaction of having built these rigs when they were new.
I will look forward to any comments. Regards.... Ron VE4 Super Rabbit
