[Alinco] Dual VFO & Split Band - Explain - Practical, Useful?

Please explain in reference to the DJ-G5 and the DJ-V5.  Essentially the 
same capability?  Can either of these radios be used as a repeater if 
the output is thru a linear?  How about using one of these HT's and a 
multiband satellite VHF/UHF base station like the Yaesu FT-847; transmit 
on one band/frequency on the HT, receive on the base station and then 
repeat on another band/frequency with the base station to take advantage 
of more power and a fixed antenna.

Is this practical and useful?  Dual VFO and split band monitoring, don't 
you have the same capability by scanning memory channels.  Why would 
someone want dual VFO or split band capability in a radio?
