Tonight, we had a small but august group of Hams check into the Thursday night 2M net. We heard from many of our regular stalwarts and had a check in from Jim, N4JPR, booming in from Woodbridge to the repeater with his 85 watt Alinco. Awesome!
The topics mentioned tonight were certainly varied ranging from Echolink to Rhubarb Pie. In fact, there was so much discussion about pies, originally initiated by Ed, KQ4YGT, that we’re thinking of conducting a W4HFH pie tasting event. Don, KI4D, made a suggestion that we include an Apple Cream Pie, made using the Pennsylvania Dutch recipe, into the mix and John, KD3BGT, was so energized by the discussion that he was going out in search of pie ingredients tomorrow.
Don, KI4D, also mentioned that he had begun pulling together the required parts to build a PotaPerformer antenna. I will be very interested in the results of that effort as I recently ran across a series of videos produced by the inventor of the Pota Performer where he gave links to all his data on design, testing and implementation for all of his antennas and it was a very impressive body of work. The chart package for the Pota Performer itself was 111 pages long! I can forward those charts if anyone has an interest.
Austin, KQ4ZCO, provided a highlight that his mom was in the process of getting licensed having already passed her test and was just waiting on the FCC to open so she could get her FRN and close the deal! Congratulations Mom! We’ll see you down the log!
On a more somber note, Ted, W9TCE, mentioned that he was just informed by phone, that his son had been admitted to the hospital with spinal issues so our prayers and best wishes go out to Ted and his family. The remainder of the discussions touched on the reality of the federal government returning to work and how that was generally a good thing no matter who you were.
