[Alexandria Radio Club Reflector] Link describing big differences between 501(c)3s and (C)7s

No donations are just that, no perform is expected in return
A grant is a contract where the non-profit is expected to perform something of equal value in return. Example: The Alexandria Radio Cub could agree to provide communications for three parades a year. SlAs of now, the club does not collect any money from the city or the organization putting on a parade, but if we take a grant, we will be not responsible for just "best effort" but whatever the organization giving the grant requires.
Others are correct in our donations must go to our stayed charitable purposes. I'm not sure buying repeaters is covered, but I'm not a lawyer, but I did manage DoD contracts for over 30 years.

Are donations considered grants? Also as a c3 aren’t we required to spend our money in a way that benefits “the mission”? I know this was a consideration for a couple other orgs I’ve been a part of in the past for doing “company events” for the employees.
