Hi Brian,
2 meters and 70 cm still are some of the most popular ham bands.
Having said that, activity on those bands is not what it once was.
Back in the day, repeaters were very popular because many of them had
autopatch on them, allowing hams to make phone calls from their
radios. As cellphones became more commonplace and plans became
cheaper, people left 2 meters behind and used their cellphones to call
home when leaving work.

Repeaters generally have busy times and quiet times during the day.
The 79, 91 and 300 repeaters are busy during drive times. Ours tends
to have activity in the afternoon and evenings.

Often, there are people listening, but won't reply to a general call
of somebody "listening." But, they will reply if called directly.

Activity will generate more activity. If you get on every day and
announce your presence, other people will start to get on as well. I
have seen it happen on our repeaters as well as others All repeaters
ebb and tide with activity.

I am sure of the other long term members will have ideas as well.

73,
Rich, KA4GFY.

I was able to join the Alexandria radio club NET last Thursday for the first time and first contact on the repeater but as much as I call since then it’s been silent. I’m pretty sure I got the offset and PL right but it’s been silent.
