 Rich,
I love this contest!  It is a real challenge and an interesting exchange for sure.  Good practice for your ears to brain to log error rate for sure!  I won Roanoke division single-op low-power in 2014 and in 2016 won the Roanoke single-op, QRP phone plaque.  QRZ N8OQ to see the two plaques at the bottom.  I used a K3 and a 93-m horizontal loop antenna feed with 450-Ohm window line that tuned up well from 160m to 10m.  I only did search and pounce.  I spent most of the contest period operating, that means at least 18 hours of chair time--2021 may required you to operate the full 24 hours in your chosen operating class to have any chance of a win or scoring high.  It is all about the antenna and low loss feeding of the antenna, esp. QRP.  I don't contest phone anymore, tinnitus prevents it--I like my hearing so I don't abuse it; as tuner-uppers and the crowded, overlapping signals get the tinnitus going.

Do what you can with the equipment you have and always have fun with it.

73,
Jim, N8OQ

This weekend is the ARRL SSB Sweepstakes.  The contest starts on
Saturday at 2100 UTC (1600 local) and runs through 0300 UTC Monday
(2200 local Sunday)..

The exchange is a serial number, precedence (A, B, Q, or S)  A means
you are running less than 150 watts, B means more than 150 watts, Q is
QRP and S is for school clubs.

Next is the check (year you were first licensed, mine is 79.  After
that, your ARRL section.  Most of us would send VA, but a few will
send MDC.

Unlike many other contests, once you work a station, you can't work
them again.  By Sunday afternoon, the big guns will work everybody.

After the contest, be sure to submit your score.  The N3FJP software
has a built-in submission program that will take you right to the ARRL
contest submission page.  I don't know if some of the others such as
N1MM do or not.  Don't forget to add Alexandria Radio Club in the
contest club block when you submit your score.  We are listed in the
contest clubs list.

Hope to work you this weekend.

73,
Rich, KA4GFY
