Marine Traffic shows most of the Potomac Riverboat Company's watercraft AIS positions (https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/home/centerx:-77.017/centery:38.814/zoom:13)  An interesting thing to note is you can watch Alexandria's Fire Boat operating on drills.  If you're interested Fire Boat 201 will be operating on a "small craft in distress with persons overboard" drill tomorrow morning between 0900 and 1200hrs between buoys 4 and 8.

Yes, I know about AIS regulations. I made deep water AIS tracking systems for Northrop Grumman back in the day.

I was just wondering, maybe voluntarily, the vessels might enjoy the marketing value of being trackable by radio and by Lloyds's, Shipspotting.com. etc.

It could make the Potomac estuary fun to watch! And it would be fun for people who are combining radio skills with software skills, too. Especially new Hams.
