[Alexandria Radio Club Reflector] George Washington Birthday Celebration

Joe,        G.W. Birthday parade asks us to do two things.1-provide order of March changes from parade start to the reviewing stand.  Last year we linked the club trailer at the parade start to the reviewing stand.  We get an Excel fill, edit it and send the file.
2-Provide safety comms for parade marshals and the parade organizer.
In addition we sometimes have APRS handhelds at the start and end,  with a display at the reviewing stand.
We meet at the parking lot at the Fire Training Center ( Nanny J. lee center) to coordinate at 0900.  On site at 0930 as police close the roads at 1000.  Parade starts at 1300,  Ends about 1430.  Then we find a place for late lunch and hot wash.
Hope this helps.73 Rick

Rick and Don,
I have a few questions, and please pardon my ignorance if these questions have been answered already and I missed them:What is our mission at this parade? I get that we are there to support the City, but more specifically, what communications will we be handling. What data will be passed across AREDN?What AREDN configuration do you plan to employ?  [900MHz, 2.4GHz, 3.4GHz, 5.8GHz, 58GHz, 60GHz, or other]Thanks,Joe, KT3I

Talked to Joe Shumard.   YES he wants us to participate.  We can also follow

the end of the parade if we want to.

Lets use AREDN again this year.  We have more units and more people.

NEED to be on site no later than 09:30 so meet at the Fire Training Center

at 09:00 for briefing and assignments

Will need two ops at the reviewing stand, two at the trailer, others to

cover AREDN relays and act to liaise with the parade marshals to collect any

changes and act as safety support.

If you CANNOT support, let me know,  if you CAN let me know.  Knowing who

can support on the 17th allows me to better prepare.

I have not heard back from Joe, but for the past 5 years he has wanted us to

do the same things.  I think AREDN worked well and we should use it again.

I will have two units available.  If you are free on February 17th from 8AM

to 3 PM we sure could use volunteers.  Please respond to Don and or Rick if

you can support this effort.

On another note,  The City has agreed to support our Field Day efforts again

this year and drafted a letter to Parks and Rec for use of the park.

It's that time of year again.  We need a few more ham radio volunteers to

help with the George Washington Day Parade on February 17th.  See link

below.  This is a great opportunity to do a readiness check on your radio

gear and to enjoy a hometown parade.  If you have not already volunteered

and would like to do so, please send me a note.
